This 1965 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 blends iconic design with refined driving ease
This 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 / 4.2 Roadster is finished in its original Gunmetal Grey with a fully renewed red leather interior and a new soft top.
Officially imported to Japan when new and sold by Shinto-Yo Enterprises, the official Jaguar dealer at the time, it retains its original engine and gearbox.
The E-Type, envisioned by Jaguar chief William Lyons and styled by ex-aircraft engineer Malcolm Sayer, stunned the automotive world upon its early 1960s debut. Its aerodynamic curves and proportions were so influential that even Enzo Ferrari reportedly began turning to Pininfarina for design work after its release.
Beyond its looks, the E-Type delivered remarkable performance. The Series 1 / 4.2 model, introduced in 1964, featured a synchromesh Jaguar-built gearbox, improved seating, and a larger 4.2-liter DOHC engine producing 265 hp. These upgrades enhanced drivability, especially for the American market, where it became a major success.
This particular example has undergone comprehensive restoration and maintenance, including body, interior, suspension, brakes, and carburetors. Air conditioning has also been added for modern comfort. On the road, the driving experience is smooth, powerful, and well-balanced, with stable handling, a compliant ride, and a gearbox that shifts seamlessly.
The E-Type’s allure lies in its rare combination of bold V12-level performance feel, precise handling, and the delicate beauty of its body lines — qualities that remain just as captivating today as they were in 1965.
