The Formula 1 2025 season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix, returning to Melbourne again this year!

The 2025 Formula 1 Grand Prix season opener will take place at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne, Australia. This semi-street circuit, which uses roads within a park surrounding an artificial lake, is known for its high safety car deployment rate. Although it has recently been held as the third race of the season, this will be the first season opener since 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The course is characterized by its narrow width and short straights, making overtaking difficult. However, a major layout change since 2021 has eased corners and sped up chicanes. As a result, the average race speed and lap times have improved, and there is more maneuvering between drivers. The strategic use of DRS (Drag Reduction System) will be particularly key, and how the four DRS zones are strategically utilized will have a significant impact on the race development. The DRS zone at Turns 8-9 was once abolished due to being considered dangerous, but it was revived in 2023. It is sure to be a focal point again in 2025.

This race is particularly noteworthy for Japanese fans, not only due to its convenient time difference, making it easy to watch from Japan, but also because it serves as the race immediately preceding the Japanese Grand Prix. Past races have been tumultuous, with three red flags in 2023 and the 2024 race ending under a safety car due to George Russell’s crash, creating many unpredictable developments.

This year’s race will be held over 58 laps of the 5.303km circuit, emphasizing team strategy. With narrow run-off areas and a slippery track surface, a chaotic race is anticipated. The opening race of the 2025 F1 season is sure to be an unmissable event for fans!
